Fat or not fat you need to exercise --
Speech #2
The great philosophers and perhaps our own parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles have told us that health is precious and we know that a good health starts with a healthy diet that is why most us eat salads, fruits and fish but aside from eating fruits and vegetable and fish, there is something that the majority us, the busy people most often tend to neglect or maybe have forgotten –t o exercise.
Mr Toastmaster, Fellow Toastmasters and most welcomed guests, my topic is about Why You Should Exercise Today -- Even if You think you do not need to loose weight.
The goal for this speech is speech organisation – that is message should be clear, there should be an appropriate transition when moving from one idea to another, that you would understand. To do this
I have divided the speech into three parts
· The popular excuses or the causes why people don’t exercise
· next the negative effects or the diseases’ that you can have if you do not exercise
· Finally for the third point, I will tell you the positive effect of exercising
After that, I will conclude.
For the first part:
Here is a list of common excuses of what people say when I asked: why do you not exercise: The first one is the most popular. Have you heard yourself saying the same words?
· I am too busy; I do not have time
· Gym membership is expensive I could not afford that
· I do not want to exercise alone, I am team person
· I am too old when I start moving my bones will crack
· I do not know how to exercise and besides, I am not FAT, I still look ok.
If being too busy is the most popular reason why people do not exercise, the most popular reason why people DO exercise is to lose weight. But there is more to it in exercising than losing weight. One of this is it helps ward off disease and ease the aging process.
I want to share with you one nightmare I had in the past.
When I was about 9 years old, I had a nightmare. I was eating dinner with my family. Then all of a sudden people on the kitchen start running away. I look around and I was shocked at what I saw. I saw through the window, a tall white giant skeleton trying to enter the door. What’s weird about this skeleton is that he could not move his joints properly. Terrified I hide underneath the kitchen table, and Then I woke up.
Trying to interpret this dream as an adult – I was thinking that maybe the skeleton was not exercising enough –
Now I will tell you the bad effects of not exercising and what could possibly happen to you.
Are you aware that many illnesses stem from the lack of exercise?
High Blood Pressure, Stroke, Cholesterol, Type 2 Diabetes, Osteoporosis, Arthritis, Obesity
Too little exercise leads to the stagnation of the blood and a variety of more serious diseases could result in cancer. Studies show that poor physical fitness raises the risk of death. Research shows that the risk of death is higher for those who are not active or has poor fitness as they are more likely to have heart disease than those who are active.
Finally, there are many other benefits of exercising – other than the obvious reason: weight loss.
Do you want to be sharper at work? Feel less tired at home? Spend some quality time with your spouse?
How about enjoying a cookie without guilt? If you say yes to it—exercise is the answer.
Being physically active benefits far beyond the obvious, here are some facts:
Exercise boosts brain power. Exercise melts away stress, produces relaxation, elevates your mood, gives you better sleep and help cures depression. A person who exercises is happier and has less stress. When you're less stressed, you’re less irritable and that could build your relationships with your partner, kids, co-workers and friends.
Exercise gives you energy. You feel more energized for the rest of the day. It also lets you eat more without the guilt.
fitness pumps up your heart. Your heart and cardiovascular system will function more effectively and you will have a stronger immune function.
Not only does exercise tone your body so you can wear your favourite jeans, it strengthens your muscles, keeps your bones strong and improves your skin complexion.
To conclude: there are many excuses why people do not exercise. The most common reason why people do not exercise is that they are busy in their daily lives. But people should find the time. Even the hottest prime minister, Justin Trudeau exercise!
Next, there are many bad effects of not exercising to your health. Failure to be physically fit is as bad for health as smoking a packet of cigarettes every day. It can give you diseases sooner or later and you get the risk of dying early or becoming a skeleton ten feet on the ground!
Finally, there are many benefits of exercising more than the obvious. It makes you look better, feel better, think better, and create better relationships with others. You can jog in the park, swim in the pool or play badminton with friends, or take a brisk walk for 15 minutes. Whatever your type of activity is -- just do just do it!
A wise philosopher once said: “An active mind cannot exist in an inactive body”
How about feeling great every morning, better than you ever felt, because you made the right decision?
Exercise is not a chore but a fun activity you should enjoy. No more excuses all you busy people whoever you are (pointing to you the audience who does not exercise), the time is now!
